I don’t know about you, but this election is making it hard to focus. I’m also way out of the routine of writing. When I was working from home and into the summer, I wrote most afternoons/evenings. Now I’m not quite sure when a good time would be. I’m not really a morning person–it takes a lot to even get myself to school in the morning. I usually stay late after school and then I just want to relax. Writer probs.
So tonight I went back through some of the story to refresh my mind. The most exciting part of the story will probably be the whole Beth getting taken thing. I haven’t quite figured out what Nick is going to do…in a sense I’m like him. Trying to figure out where to go from here.
Continuing Story #1: Troubled Waters
Nick stepped into the truck. His whole body was tense. What was he supposed to say to the bitchy teacher in the back seat? He wasn’t sure he trusted the advice of Ben. He was clearly intoxicated or under some kind of influence.
This wasn’t like high school. He couldn’t just beat up this lady so she wouldn’t talk.
He had to think. He had to figure out a plan. How to make her pay for the last year. His family had gone through enough without some outsider too-good-for-this-town hoity toity lady showed up.
Nick thought about his dad. When Nick was 15, Nick’s mom decided she couldn’t handle good ol’ Crystal Lake anymore. He had walked in on her packing her bags. Nick knew her and her dad had been fighting a lot lately, but he initially thought she was just making a trip to her sister’s place.
She wasn’t like other moms in town. Other moms stayed home and made cookies and poured big glasses of milk for the kids when they got home from school. Marie was busy working on her business.
She owned her very own real estate business. She hadn’t gone to college, but she started working at a local company in high school to gain experience. It turned out she had a knack for sales. Marie could turn on the charm like no other. And people trusted her.
Soon she had her real estate license and was the top for sales in the small company. At this point, she was 25 and married, but wasn’t interested in having kids. Mr. Busey, on the other hand, had just assumed that they would have had little ones by now. All of their friends did. He was a teacher and had always loved kids.
Well, it’s a start. I’m interested to get into the Busey family story so there will be some justification to Nick’s actions.
Until next time!
