I started reading Misery last night and it’s super creepy. It’s about a writer who wakes up in a foreign bed, in extreme pain, and is greeted by a woman who is his “number one fan.” Soon he realizes that he is trapped in her house in the middle of Colorado, with broken legs. And she is crazy pants. Cree-py.
It’s interesting to me reading about Stephen King writing about writing. I’m not sure if it’s interesting to you, reader, (reading me write about writing), but I guess it’s already happening. And of course you can always find something else to entertain you. The internet is a big place. 🙂
I’m feeling like I want to continue from where the last post left off, but I am also feeling like there are things I need to go back and build up to make this part of the story more interesting. So I’m feeling a little stuck.
To help get me unstuck, I made a page of to-do for story #1.
Maybe I can just work through some of that list here to feel a little more unstuck.
To do for story #1:
1. Give Beth and Alec last names.
Okay here goes…Beth Rose and Alec Parker. Yes they are married. Yes they have different last names. This probably agitates some of the townies, right?
Check!
2. More background on character, Tim Busey.
Tim is Mr. Busey’s son. Mr. Busey is the principal. I think I could add this part to the story where Beth hears who Tim is:
Beth remembered hearing stories about Tim, but had never met him. She thought he might have had something to do with a terrible story Alec told her about some kids picking on the González family. Something about racial slurs. Possibly violence?
She wasn’t sure, but it did give her pause.
She also wasn’t a fan of his current tone of voice. Something seemed off, but really she just wanted to get some ice on her ankle. And maybe some pain pills. And wine? Probably not both, Beth. But man it sounded nice…
Thankfully, Noah was also in the car and they were literally a block away from her house.
[[insert the part where the truck whips around]]
Okay that makes Tim at least a little more sinister. I’m also wondering if I need to change Tim’s name…that’s the name of my brother in law. I wonder how offended he would be if I kept it…
I’ll say check! for now. 🙂
